Hi there,
I am creating a custom dialog for our install process, basically I'll need to throw a load of user inputted variables off to our ASP.NET web service, and then analyse the response.
I've got the dialog looking just fine but am not certain of the *correct* way to be doing this. Should I create a custom executable and throw the variables off to that?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Nick.

Admittedly I'm a little disappointed with the lack of enthusiasm in your response, but c'est la vie!MichaelNesmith wrote:The correct way is whatever is easiest for you
Alternate ways include using Call DLL Function and even writing your own plug-in.
I've decided to move that portion into a separate executable which will be launched via a button click, although this won't provide feedback in the Wizard Interface which is what I was really after, it wouldn't tie that code into the installer.
Thanks anyway.

Do you lack self confidence to the extent that you are unable to determine what the easiest method to use is for you?
In that case, InstallAware is not the right tool for you. Unlike other tools, InstallAware does not force or require you to choose any particular way to do something.
This can be a drawback for users like yourself who require firm sets of belief.

Wow! Seriously dude?MichaelNesmith wrote:Do you lack self confidence to the extent that you are unable to determine what the easiest method to use is for you?

What I was actually asking you, was what was the best method of integrating the desired technique into YOUR software, rather than just loosely hashing in a solution that just worked, I wanted to integrated entirely into the Installer. I wasn't 100% certain whether or not this could be done via the method I had originally chosen so I thought I'd ask, knowing that most companies are all to keen to offer advice on developing for their applications.
So while I was busy building, I thought I'd fire off a question and have one of the so called professionals of the application give me some advice on the subject.
You have failed every hurdle.
If this is honestly how you treat your paying customers then you need a serious rain check.

First, during your purchase of InstallAware, you accepted this policy, and agreed to receive no support:
http://www.installaware.com/support-service-options.htm
Next, as far as I can see from the thread, Michael gave you TWO alternatives, along with the suggestion that you do whatever is easiest for you. You may go on and insist that we didn’t help you - all the same, we gave you what you were asking for: two new suggestions, and the recommendation that you choose the easiest option from among the three total options (two ours, one yours).
So, even though we are under no legal obligation to provide you support - we still went ahead and supported you on good faith.
In return, you put up a website that calls InstallAware staff "shites" and "pricks", because even though you were asking for our advice, you didn’t appreciate what was said for whatever reason:
http://www.certivox.com/installaware/
Is it really so hard for you to understand that there is no one right way to do something?
We do not tolerate abuse of our support resources - and your dev has been banned from the public forums, as well as other support resources. You already accepted to receive no support, we'll exercise our right now.
