Error installing SQL express 2005 on 64-bit system.

I have a 32 bit installer package containing a 32-bit app and 32-bit SQL express 2005.This installs and works fine on a 32-bit system.

However when trying to install on a 64-bit system (2008 server or windows 7) I get the following error message.

"SQL Express 2005 could not be installed. Please use windows update to manually install this update on your system"

The installation works fine on 64 bit if I exclude the SQL Express 2005 part of the installation.

What do I need to do to fix this. Any advise much appreciated.

After looking at the scripts one more time,I noticed that the
"SQL Express 2005 could not be installed. Please use windows update to manually install this update on your system"
is a geenric error that is thrown in the setupsqlexpr script if the return code is something other than 0 or 3010. So I modified that message to say

"SQL Express 2005 could not be installed. Error Code= $SQLEXISTS$"

where $SQLEXISTS$ is the error code returned. According to the help file this error code should be one of the standard list of Windows Installer error codes. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/229683

However after I rebuilt and ran the installation on a 64 bit box the error displayed as expected
"SQL Express 2005 could not be installed. Error Code=70047"

I am unable to find what error 70047 stands for. Please help.

That is definitely possible. Are you able to test this on a different machine?

In addition, it will be good to run the SQL Server setup outside of InstallAware, in full GUI mode, so that in the SQL Server setup GUI, the error will be natively raised, possibly together with more information on diagnosing and resolving the issue that is causing the problem.
