ERROR:This application has failed to start because mia.lib

Post by mohoch »

Hi.
I am using installaware 9 to install my application, in a Web Deploy configuration.
Now when I try to run a new version of the installer, On XP everything works fine.
When I try to install it on vista the most strange thing happens - I get a pop-up saying "This application has failed to start because mia.lib was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem"

BUT the application itself does install and does run!!

I searched the forum and saw that this error is mentioned, but what other people wrote does not reflect exactly my problem.

can anyone help me?

Had a similar problem and found out it was system restore that caused the issue. Had to delete the cached installation files and then it worked fine. You can actually get IA to do that for you if you know your product and revision codes and do a couple of monkey rigs.

To be on the safe side I also always set Set 64 Bit Mode to Win32 so temp files, folders registry entries are found correctly on 64 Bit versions of the OS.

When you do a web build and some considerable changes have been been made to the offline install, there are situations where installations can be problematic and web media blocks which have not been changed and marked as ignore will still fail, even when download a fresh copy is selected. It is also known that sytem restore can contibute to this issue...so...

Since you can set IA to always cache installation files, it would also be nice to have to have a single MSI command to clear all cached installation files.

Actually, Delete Files Recursive on $ENGINECACHE$\\*.* will do, but you don't want to do this unless you're not running from that folder (if you are, then nuke just the subfolders instead).

Thanks for for tip Michael! Might be a stupid question, but can this be done without having to add another Apply Install after the command, to be assured they are deleted first?

No need, its a directly executing "black" command. You would need to do that if it was a deferred execution "purple" command.
