Sorry, I haven't received the notification that there is a new reply at this thread.

I've sent the mail again a couple of minutes ago. The project is compressed with 7zip. There is no dll or exe included ...

(Last time I've had the release path with the exe included as a demonstation of the problem.)

Received :)

However, after testing, I can find absolutely nothing wrong with the installation, and the avi component is correctly animated during installation (as per design).

Can you confirm where the modified / pasted versions of the animate contorl are?

Now that we've solved the major problem of getting the project to your inbox I'm confident that we'll find a solution for the animated avi as well :D

I've copied the blue.avi to the welcome dialog. If you (or at least: if I) open the dialog in the designer and click the Test button the control is visible but not animated.

If you build the setup, the control on the welcome page is not animated, but the (same) control on the progress dialog is animated.

That's somehow comprehensible, because the Active property of the control is False in the welcome dialog. But it's not possible to set it to True, because if I try, I get an "Invalid property value".

Hope that helps ...

I wanted to add that I am also seeing this same issue. Using the Titamium theme I edited one control on an existing dialog and the avi stopped working.

I tried putting the full path to the AVI in for file name and it worked great in the designer, but then I get the white box when I run the installer. Also when I preview the dialog I get an "Unspecified Error".

no matter what I do I can't change the name/set active=true

Post by dunion »

new name in baggage file with no path; it's in the interop/templates folder, it's in the creatives, I explicitly copy it to the target directory just in case, it's in the project folder... but whatever I do I can't set 'active' = true nor can I set a new file name, I always get 'invalid property value'.

I have modified all the graphics on the UI so I really don't want to rebuild the whole install again or try to change the template again.

Is there somewhere else I need to 'include' this file?

I'm building on Vistax64.

Thanks.

Change in the way IA works from prior recommendations?

Post by dunion »

I started a new project and noticed the opposite to the instructions in this forum, that is the baggage files had the full path to the .avi file. I added the full path to the .AVI file and at least in the designer the .AVI starts to animate. Further if I used the full path, I could put in a new file-name on the designer.

That leads me to think that either a full path or relative path is needed, not the 'only the filename and extension' as listed in the prior answers in this issue.

When you've finished editing the dialog, make sure that after you've added it to your project, the .baggage file does NOT contain any path information - just a file name and extension. Manually edit it with Notepad if necessary. If any path information is in there when you build your setup, the setup will fail on end-user machines.

Getting the animation paths to work in the dialog editor can be tricky at times, but I'm glad you were able to sort it out.

That has been problematic also

Post by dunion »

I did the following, I started a new project with the swoosh avi file in the theme.
I just went to that dialog (progress req).
Tried to change the name from swoosh.avi to gray.avi (found in the same folder, gave me "invalid" value error.

Tried again from starting. Same dialog.
Changed the background color on the avi (it stopped animating in the designer), saved, changed it back, saved. I was no longer able to 'fix' this no matter what I did. I couldn't edit the name of the file, unless in the designer I put the FULL Path to the file, it wouldn't animate, that is I couldn't get it back to the 'way it was'. Then when I build, it doesn't animate. No other changes. Something is not right.

When the default project builds, where animation works, the .baggage file has the full path, not just the file name.

So I'm still having some trouble but I hope to test my install today and see if I stumbled on the right combination of where the full path needs to be and where it doesn't.

One remaining animation problem

Post by dunion »

If I put the 'full path' in the dialog, it at least lets me do that and in the designer it animates. I tried with both the full path and only the file name in the .baggage file, neither works but the problem has something I believe to the 'active' property. On Vista64 (my dev machine) I can't set the active property to 'true'. No matter what I do it 'sets it back to false'.

That leads me to think some other property value may be blocking me from setting this value?

Typing or using the arrow to select kick-starts the animation in the designer but doesn't leave the change permanent. Is there a way to force this in script? I tried doing it on the dialog with an object rule that that didn't work either.

Re: Dialog customization problem

I'm doing a different install and still back with this problem. For the prior install I have given up and removed all the animations. I had started with a new project, picked a template with gray.avi, all was working. As soon as I edit the progress page to remove the html control and save the avi control stops working, on the target machine it's a white box. I can no longer leave 'gray.avi' in the control, if I change it it has to have the full path. I am clearing the .baggage file of any path information prior to build.

I'm building on x64. It's your gray.avi file so I know it's not the file format, and it's in the default location that was workign before I did the 'save' on the dialog form.

In the designer I can't keep the Active setting to true for this and I have to include a full path if it's going to allow me to save.

Any more suggestions to get the avi files working in any fashon on x64 (build & deploy)? Do I need to eplicitly copy this to the target folder on the output machine?

Also note some of the text on your dialogs in the templates have spelling errors.

Easy to reproduce with even less change - the basic thing is that if you 'save' any dialog with an animation the animation won't work.
Start a new project, default everything. Select Titanium.
Go to the progress form for the pre-requisites which has a typo on the header.
Fix the spelling on the header, save.
Close, re-open in the designer.
Note the animation is dead (at least on x64).
From then on you can't set the control to active; the animation won't work.
The name still says gray.avi.
If you try to change the name to anything else without a path it won't let you. Change the name to <IA Path..\R2\.etc..>\gray.avi
Save. Then try to change it back to just gray.avi, it won't let you.
Any 'save' action on a form seems to make it impossible for IA to animate.
I have the studio version of IA9, so I can't test with any other version. I wonder if support is testing with a different "version" than the users who are having this problem? Maybe we're missing some critical .dll?
