DLLs won't register in Vista/Windows 7

Post by michaels »

We have a small number of dlls that we need to register with installation in Vista and Windows 7. Our app is written in VFP9 and all dlls for Microsoft Foxpro register fine with UAC on, but several other third party dlls are blocked by UAC from registering, even if the user is an Administrator.

If you turn off UAC, uninstall, reboot, and re-install it's solved, but obviously that's not a solution for end users. Is anyone else running into this and is there a way to stop UAC from blocking dlls from registering?

Is there a setting in Installaware that can eliminate this?

Any help is much appreciated.

I have one project where I run run a piece of code 'as admin' that does the registration silently, that is I make sure the code runs with no UI but that IA waits for it to finish and that I run it after the apply install so all the files are there; You require elevation for the 'setup' and it launches an app, that app will be run 'as admin' and will then be able to register dll's.
