Unable to Change installation options.
I have an install package with multiple components. From "Programs and Features" (Vista) or "Add / Remove Programs" (XP) control panel if I try to change the set of installed components, it prompts me to "Please locate your original setup sources to continue operation" with a "Browse For Folder" dialog. Selecting the folder that contains the exe or msi originally used to install the product results in being prompted again, and again, ....
If I start the process from the original exe or msi rather than from the "Programs and Features" control panel, it works.
What do I have configured wrong that it cannot find what it is looking for? Or if this is a bug in InstallAware, how can I prevent the "Change" option from showing up in "Programs and Features"?
Thanks,

I believe the original logic is unchanged. That does not seem to be the problem anyway, since initiating the change/repair from the original exe/msi works properly.neillans wrote:Hi Aaron,
Did you modify any of the original uninstall / wizard / initialisation logic?
What type of setup are you building (compressed, single, etc?)?
The problem is occurring from a compressed, single install, from both the exe and the extracted msi.

Can you try and uncompressed install?
If you are using a compressed install, the installer caches a portion of the install on the PC to faciliate the uninstall ability via control panel; the fact you are being prompted indicates that this cache does not exist (either not enough space, cleaned off the machine, or not created in the first place).
You should also run the MSI Cleanup tool available from Microsoft (on their knowledge base) to make sure nothing is lurking.

It happens from an uncompressed install as well.neillans wrote:Can you try and uncompressed install?

There is sufficient space on disk, it has not been cleared off the machine, so the only thing left is it is not created in the first place.
What do I need to do to get the cache properly created?
Thanks,
Aaron

Re: Unable to Change installation options.
Did you read the help file topic "Patching", subsection "Patch Source Resolution"? The same considerations apply.
At any rate, with InstallAware 9 or higher, you have the option to fully cache setup sources. So shouldn't be a problem moving forward.
