Upgraded to 9. Build leaves locked mscoree.dll file

Post by cdmackie »

Just upgraded to 9 (from 6 I think).

My projects builds, but each time it copies a file mscoree.dll into a project subdirectory such as "Release\\Web\\data\\OFFLINE\\E18BD407\\431AE4FA", which then cannot be deleted. If I re-run the builder, it fails saying that file cannot be copied (because the existing one is locked).

I cannot delete the manually, even after closing IA, get the "in use" error.

I've used process explorer, and that file doesn't appear to be in use.

I have to rename to mscoree.dll.1, mscoree.dll.2, etc each time I do a build.

I rebooted and still can't delete the file...um, odd.

Is there some windows protection that is stopping file tampering? I have tried disabling KAV, and anything else that might be doing it. Using Windows 2003.

Any other suggestions appreciated.

cheers,

Windows "file protection" can be strange, especially when you are using AV software. Even when the AV software is disabled, its driver is often not - just working in pass-through mode instead - so unless you uninstall it fully, bugs in the driver may still be exposed through strange behavior like this.

That said, why are you installing Microsoft's .NET core DLL manually? I believe you need to use the .NET runtimes for that instead - we have lots and lots built-in to InstallAware.

I have just switched to VS9 from 7. I did this for the feature that caches install for patching.
I am seeing the same problem I cannot delete the Patch or Regular install folder because it says mscoree.dll is in use.
I also get the build error. I have tried rebooting and all and it will not let the mscoree.dll in the Patch and Install folders be deleted.
