Hello,
I have a number of translations of the shared strings that all seem to work fine except for the very first string that reads something along the lines of "Installation Wizard is verifying the contents of this setup package. This may take a moment.".
The languages we've translated to are a bunch of European ones along with Japanese, Chinese(PRC) and Chinese(Taiwan). The translations of the string seems to have trouble showing up properly in the translations to asian languages we have but all the other strings work fine. I've attached screenshots for illustration. This is being run on windows installations for the proper languages (by a genuine Chinese guy if that matters ).
Anyone know what to do about this?
As you can see, the first screen (that should say the ".. verifying contents .." line) are messed up but the second one (and all the rest) work fine.
This is generally resolved by updating the file dependent.exe in your main InstallAware folder using a resource editor; changing the font of the text control will take care of it.

Thanks for your suggestion. Do you think you could be a little more specific? I've tried changing it to various fonts that have the Chinese characters but it still doesn't turn out well.
I did indeed edit dependant.exe to change the font. I tried a few different ones, two that I can remember by name are "Arial Unicode MS" and "PmingLiU" as was recommended to me by our interaction designer since they were supposed to contain the relevant characters.
The change did have some effect, I could see the font being different when running the installer but unfortunately the Asian characters were still not displaying properly.
Would it be possible for you to put together a sample script showing this problem, and submit it via our support system? I can then escalate it and get it checked ...
Certainly, it has been submitted and the ticket number is UTS-285318.
Meanwhile I have noticed one more screen that the error appears in that seems to be somewhat related but not quite since I can't find it in the resources of dependant.exe. It is in the screen you see when you click cancel during the screen shown above. I've added a screenshot of this as well. The three buttons are correct but the other text is not. It should read "Are you sure you want to cancel?".
Just checked with the developers; essentially this is something that is outside of the remit of the default localisation support provided in the package, and so you need to use a resource editor to modify the relevant resources.
Unfortunatly, this is actually not something that we have done in house as such, but other customers have done (and reported works correctly for them) - so I'm afraid I'm not 100% sure which fonts work, which don't etc. All I can advise is trying another font at this point in time.
I'll have a dig through the support system and grab the project you submitted and have a look and let you know if I come up with anything useful.
While that seems probable it wouldn't really help me since I would not be able to change the font through the resource editor method. None of the string resources refer to a font name.
I'll see what the dev's come back with - if it turns out to be a progmatically generated dialog, I'll log a request to change it to a form so it can be modified.
I am new user of InstallAware Studio , and I face the same problem.
Do you have solution now?
I am use Chinese(Taiwan), Chinese(PRC) and Japanese also.
I found some thing and I do not know is that useful for you troubleshooting
When We modify a Text on dialog, We use font Tahoma to solve translation problem,
And on font select dialog, Charset is Western, In Object properties is ANSI_CHARSET
If use this setting, we will get chaos character on translation result.
We must change from ANSI_CHARSET to DEFAULT_CHARSET and it will translate will.
But in resource editor, we can only select charset on font select dialog, not like in installaware editor we can change ANSI to DEFAULT.
Another thing, is default translation file of Chinese(Taiwan) wrong (File reference.Chinese (Taiwan)) ? , even open with notepad, it was all chaos character
Last, Sorry about my English is poor, hope you can understand my description.
And hope We can solve those translation problem.
