R2 upgrade problem with setupmsi20.mia

Post by rasmusw »

Hello.
I have recently upgraded to IA 9 R2.
A project I am working on can now no longer build. The error message is

Code: Select all

ERROR: Include File "C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallAware\InstallAware 9\runtimes\setupmsi20.mia" does not exist
The problem seems clear, R2 is in a different folder "InstallAware 9 R2", so there is no runtimes folder at the above location.

When I remove Windows Installer 2.0 as a required runtime in the project, it builds fine. When I re-add it, the problem comes back.

I have tried making a new project from scratch which includes Windows Installer 2.0, and that works fine.

How do I make the older project use the new path to setupmsi20.mia ?

You've already found the issue and the solution - you can just edit the .MPR project file in Notepad to fix the path and it will build fine.

Newer versions of InstallAware pull in include files to the local project folder, even the original version 9 did this - so you probably had an older project. This makes sure you won't run into the same issue during your next upgrade, for instance.

The project is originally from IA 9.
I can see that the two Windows Installer MIA files are copied into the project folder when I add that runtime.

The .mpr file does not contain the full path to the MIA files. I have actually searched all files in the project folder for "program files" and there is no reference to the setupmsi20 and checkmsi20 files with a full path anywhere.

The problem is still there.

Strangely the project can now build with miabuild, but not from the IDE. It couldn't build with either on Friday.

If there is no path on the .mia files, they will be looked up from the project folder.

You can always remove all dependencies in your project (all local files) so we can build them locally here and send them over for testing as forum attachment.

Search for .mia in your MPR file though, I am pretty sure that will turn up something useful for you.

I had the same thing. In my case, there was an absolute path to setupmsi20.mia and checkmsi20.mia near the end of my project's .mpr file. I removed the path, leaving just the filename and copied those two files from IA's runtimes folder into my project folder. That fixed the problem. The problem was due to the project being built from different PCs, where IA was installed into different locations.
