This only seems to be happening with the pre-built themes that have an animation with a Filename where the filename is <filename>.avi. These must have been built with an older version of IA that allowed relative paths to be in that field.

I cannot use such a relative path at all, to create a form that would replicate this behavior.

So, it looks like we'll have to update the themes that use the "old relative way".

In the mean time, you should be able to do one of the two following as a work-around:
  1. Theme-side work-around - a more permanent fix.
Navigate to the dialog/theme folder located within the IA "targetDir" like:

    Code: Select all

    C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallAware\InstallAware 9 R2\Dialogs\
Optional: copy the folder of the theme you want to use just so you have a backup.
Enter the folder for the theme you want to use, open the dialog(s) with animations, then set the FileName property to a full path to an AVI like:

    Code: Select all

    C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallAware\InstallAware 9 R2\interop\templates\gray.avi
    Save the dialog.

Now, when you import/change to that theme, the animation should work properly.
  2. If you are in a situation where the above is not desirable, in your project's existing dialogs, set animation controls' FileName property to a full path to an AVI.
If that doesn't work, try deleting the existing animation control and create a new one.

You should find the animations working.
If neither of the two solutions work for you, let us know. And if they don't work, please reply with the exact version/build of IA you're running.

I have tried changing the path on the dialog to a full path to the gray.avi file as indicated both in the past, and in a current test installs. That gets it to work on the IDE until I close/re-open but never during the actual install process itself.

As indicated IA when I click on the version button says Moya.sp1.070409 and it's in the R2 directory under InstallAware.
I downloaded the latest from the website couple weeks ago and installed it.
I will do that again tonight.

Are you testing with the studio edition or a different one? On x64 or x32?

My current fallback is to only use AVI's on pages I never modify after I select the theme and delete them on pages I need to modify in any way.
There was a typo on the title for the prerequisites progress page for this theme so I had to edit that, breaking the AVI on that page.

My default development environment is using Studio Admin (moya.sp3) on windows 7 x64.

Let's see if you can reproduce this on the latest version of IA and we'll go from there.

With the latest installaware version, studio, not studio admin, I took my older / shipping install where I had trouble getting this to work, put the avi in the directory along with all the standard ones, used the full path so I could see it animate in the forms editor at design time (but not in the general project viewer, it's a white box there) saved the forms, cleared out the path in the baggage file, built the install, still no animation at runtime. Tried leaving the long path in the baggage file too, no difference.

So I would consider this not fixed.

My next test would be to delete and re-add the object that holds the pointer to the avi file.

I still can't set the 'active' property to 'true' in the IDE.

Can you test with the studio, not the studio admin version if you can't get this to fail with the studio admin version?

The Active property is not currently available. I'm not sure if this was intended to be synonymous with Enabled (which is also not present) or if it was intended to indicate whether the control should animate or not.

What if you don't clear out the path in the baggage file?
