Let's say I have an app that does NOT require a serial number as it is an internal application and not one for sale to public.
Let's say I want them to receive updates via web updates.
I have to put the update.ini and the resulting setup.exe files on the web site (which anyone could browse to and download).
How do I protect these files so they are not just downloaded and installed by anyone?
If I required a serial number (see other post about question on serial number) then I am sure that alone would be sufficient as the user couldn't install without serial number, but since this wouldn't have a serial number what would you recommend?
User Authentication
Re: User Authentication
You will have to configure your web server to set the policies to your desired behavior (i.e. only allow connections from your internal network).

Re: User Authentication
Let me clarify... these are internal as in our company employees... BUT they would remotely connecting via the internet to our public web server.
