Bug Report - Project Closed, Changes Lost when open script

Post by jsmith »

I was altering several Include Scripts and hadn't saved my changes. When I went to open one of the IA-provided include scripts - setupmxsml60 (added by IA when adding the .NET 3.5 SP1 runtime) - I got this error:
This script uses a plug-in that is not available on your system:
MSXML

Please install this plug-in before opening this script. Closing project now.

To install plug-ins:

...
When I clicked OK, the project was closed and the changes I had made were lost. This shouldn't happen.

I agree that your work shouldn't be lost.

So, you think it should just prevent the 'erroneous' script from being included into your project, instead of closing on you?

Thanks for replying, Andy. My main concern is about the lost work. It should prompt you if you want to save each file. As for whether it should close the project, it's arguable but I think the project should remain open but fail to load that script. I mean, I am going to have to reopen the project to fix the problem, right?

After some research, I'm wondering if the latest version of IA has fixed this, since I'm not able to reproduce this.

Here's what I tried:
At numerous points, I tried renaming the MSXML to MSXML1 (in Install\Path\InstallAware\InstallAware 9 R2\Plug-Ins).
I did this before loading IA, after including runtimes. I closed IA, then renamed the folder.

Create a new basic setup.
Edit the main script (to see if I could recover the edits)

I added the runtime for .NET 3.5 SP1
I noticed " Check/Install MSXML" appears in setupmsxml60.

From viewing that script, I could view any other script. I could not build the setup and I could not add any Check/Install MSXML commands, but I didn't get the message you report.

At one point, I included every single runt-time, but still not that message.

I could close and open the script without any problem.

I have the same Problem.
I Re-Installed IA with the plug-in selected and I still get this message.

When I double click the setup/check msxml60-script or try to build my setup, the Messagebox appears and my project is closed.

I wonder if it is possible to build a setup with the .NET 3.5 Framework Runtime but without the Microsoft XML 6.0 Parser Runtime.
(.NET 3.5 seems to be dependent on XML 6.0 since it is checked automatically when I check the .NET 3.5 entry)

I installed the latest InstallAware 9 R2 Build Moya.sp2.050510

sq-rom,

Are you able to create a new basic project and include the file then? This will help determine if there's a problem with the one project or within your environment more generally...

In a new Project, the MSXML60 obviously works.

So what could be wrong with my project?

It's far from certain what's wrong...

Could you post the project for examination?

I now started a new project and everything works fine so far. (My problem is solved)

The first project (the one I had troubles with) was originally created with an older build of IA. I switched to a newer version during my project because the msxml didn't work.
Is it possible, that the project some kind of remebered, that it was created in the older version? (In the older version of IA even a newly created project didn't work with msxml)

Yes, it's possible, but we do strive for 100% backward compatibility. If you still have the problem script/project, you could try a test to cut and paste the script back and see if it will build. It obviously won't help you now, but I'd be curious if it would "fix" the problem...
