Hi,
We are distributing a very large file (4 GB) with our Setup, this large file is "grouped" with other 2 files under a [Web Media Block], the project compiles OK and the Media Block is created without problem (the resulting .7zip is about 1.5 GB). The problem occurs during execution; the Setup begins decompressing the Web Media Block and extracts File1, then states an error extracting File2 (this is the 4 GB File) and we have to "ignore" the extraction, and finally it extracts File3 and the Setup finishes but my Program can not run because the lack of FIle2.
As a workaround; I had to distribute File2 via a "FileBag / Extract" procedure and doing it that way, the large file gets decompressed and installed with out errors, the drawback is that I need to control Install/Uninstall logic because the "FileBag/Extract" commands are not part of the "Install Files/Apply" logic. Another "bad" thing is that I need extra space, because the big file gets decompressed in a Temp Dir and then I have to copy it to the Application TargetDir.
Do you know why this big file is not being extracted when located using the "Install Files/Apply" logic ???
Regards,
Enrique Carbonell.

Re: Problem decompressing very large files
It's not clear off hand why there would be a difference, since they both use 7zip. I'll have to see if I can reproduce this. I'm going to use an arbitrary file type and I doubt it matters, but what type of file is the large one?

Re: Problem decompressing very large files
Ok..just to give further info about my problem... When the big file (4 GB) is trying to be copied to the APPDIR, I'm getting error 11310 on my Windows Event Log and a message that states:
Product: MySetup -- Error 1310. Error writing to file: C:\ProgramData\MySetupData\DBFILE02. System Error 131. Verify that you have access to that directory.
It seems like if the user has no permissions to write on the dir, but that cannot be true because when the Error Screen is showing, if I take a look at the specified dir, the file DBFILE01 is already there, If I select "OMIT" from the error screen, then the setup continues and DBFILE03 gets copied to the dir; so no permissions issue is shown on the 2 other files. After the setup, my program cannot work because lack of DBFILE02.
Another test that I've done is work with a smaller DBFILE02 (1.4 GB) and in that case, the setup works just fine...so, is there a known limit about the size an Installaware setup can handle????
Any ideas of what can be going wrong ????

Re: Problem decompressing very large files
What OS are you seeing this on?
Has only one user experienced this?
I was able to run a test (on Win7) with a 6.5Gig file and it was successfully installed.

Re: Problem decompressing very large files
Hi;
Thanks for your answers. The OS where the error is showing is Windows XP SP3 and Windows 7, and the problem shows on 32bit OS and 64bit OS. We're running other tests regarding the "Compression Level", we'll try to reduce compression level at the Installaware options page and see how it works.
I'll posts my results here, but any other ideas are welcome.

Hi Enrique,
Were you able to come up with a solution for this issue?
Thanks.

Re: Problem decompressing very large files
Hi !
Actually no, we let the project compiled with the "workaround" I've already described, that is splitting the file to another WebMedia Build. Any ideas are still welcomed.
