Program Compatibility Assistant on Windows 7 64 bit

Post by AlexB »

Is there any setting in IA to make Program Compatibility Assistant happy on Windows 7 64 bit?

I can install my app without a problem. It runs fine too.
However, after I close the executable, Program Compatibility Assistant prompts me with its standard message that "This program might not have installed correctly".

Windows help says the following:

The Program Compatibility Assistant might appear if a program or driver didn't register correctly in Programs and Features in Control Panel during installation. This can sometimes happen during the installation of a device. Click This program installed correctly to close the Program Compatibility Assistant.

So the question is how to register correctly in Programs and Features in Control Panel during installation?

Just to clarify:
I can install my app without a problem. It runs fine too.
However, after I close the executable, Program Compatibility Assistant prompts...
Are you talking about your app or the setup? Do you notice this every time or does it seem to have to do with timing perhaps.

I have seen this prompt, even after using notepad (when I closed notepad, I was asked if it was properly installed!)...

Application itself. Program Compatibility Assistant keeps popping up every time after I close my app.
It only stops appearing if I specifically choose (in Program Compatibility Assistant window) that my program was installed OK.

I've got another question. I noticed in IA on "Application Information \ Application Requirements" page there is an option "64 bit operating system (puts setup in 64 bit installation mode)". I couldn't find information what that check box is for. Does anyone know anything about it?

See this for Compatibility Assistant info:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb756937.aspx

If you are installing a 64-bit application, you should set your installer to 64 bit mode. You can accomplish this through MSIcode or through the Special Requirements section of the Application Requirements view in the Application Information folder under the Design tab. Search the help file and the forums for "Set 64 Bit Mode" to learn more.
