Relative Paths do not seem to work on IA9 R2

Post by NigelG »

This evening I have just upgraded my copy of IA Studio from IA8 to IA9R2.
I tried doing a build for a project that build successfully under IA8, however it immediately fails with the following error:
Error during build: No files matching pattern "Input\FrontEnd.chm" despite the FrontEnd.chm file listed being still in the "Input" subdirectory below the IA project file.

Does this mean that IA9 no longer supports relative paths (whereas IA8 did)?
If relative paths are supported under IA9, how should a relative path be specified, and why was my specification of the relative path incorrect?
Any comments you may have to help me to get to the bottom of this problem would be appreciated.
Many thanks.

Yes, relative paths posed a problem in that when you copied your project folder, the relative paths could easily be broken, thus the move to absolute paths (for file locations).

There is a feature request for an option to make paths relative if desired, though. I'll reply back here if it gets implemented.

Andy,
Many thanks for the definite reply.
I assume the same will apply to the upcoming release of IA10.

It would be good for relative paths to be added back in the future, as I do from time to time move the location on disk of my IA projects or even copy a IA project, and having to change all the paths on all the files will be a real pain, particularly for large projects.

I filed the feature request just last week, so I don't think it's had a chance to be implemented yet.

Andy,
Actually, it seems that your feature request has been implemented quicker than you thought.
I have just upgraded to IA10 today (release day), and I have found that it has been implemented.

Here is the new section in the IA10 help file under the "Source Files" definition:
"Provide the full or relative path to the files to install. Relative paths will be resolved relative to the project folder."

I have also reverted my project back to using relative paths, and the build worked fine.

Although it is not mentioned in the "What's New" list, this restored feature could encourage other IA9 users to upgrade.

From my point of view it is brilliant. Reported a problem yesterday, had it confirmed immediately, had it fixed in the new release today. What more could I want ! I know that my report was just coincidental, but that does not change the fact that I am very pleased with the net result.

So thanks for anticipating my need last week (before I knew I even needed it myself) and especially for filing the feature request when you did, as you just got it included in the nick of time for the new release !
(p.s. you don't do time travel as well do you?)
