I upgraded from v9 to v10.
Tried to rebuild my v9 project in the new v10.
During the rebuild in the build progress window when it says "Created windows installer database" the application closes completely without any error message.
I created a new project - blank. Assigned all my merge modules and compiled - worked fine.
I then added some of my actual files and started the build.
Same problem came back.
I then set the encryption to NONE and did another build.
Same problem again.
I'm stumped. Any ideas? And why does the InstallAware application just close without any information?
Crash without error
Re: Crash without error
Do you mean you added scripts? Are you able to isolate the script that has causes the problem?I then added some of my actual files and started the build.
Same problem came back.
Could you post a sample project or email it to [email protected] for us to look at?

Re: Crash without error
Okay, I've narrowed down the cause.
I added the new CR merge module - one specifically released by CR for VS2010 since it did not ship with VS2010.
Its not the .NET 4 CR, its a new one specific to VS2010. You may want to include it.
The filename is CRRuntime_13_0.msm
I have not yet verified but I think the cause may be that we used ORCA to add our regkey to the module. However, I suspect its not necessary on that module so I'm going to use a fresh unmodified version and see if the build works.
Either way, that is how to reproduce it I suspect so you can put a handler in to avoid having IA 10 crash & close without some sort of notice or error message.
Thanks!

Re: Crash without error
Well, I just unzipped the original untouched version of the merge module and used it.
It crashes.
You can download that module from here:

Re: Crash without error
I have been able to reproduce this, we'll let you know when we find out more.
Edit: Try repairing your InstallAware installation (re-run setup in repair mode) and let me know if this fixes your problem! Also, still:
In the meanwhile, why not use the new Crystal v13 runtimes that are included with InstallAware 10?
They provide 50% smaller files than Crystal's own too!

Re: Crash without error
I'd love to use them but I did not see anything listed as CR for VS2010. I see the VS2008 ones and the CR for .NET 4 ones. I believe those are not the same as the CR13 or am I wrong?
Thanks!

Re: Crash without error
I have been able to research the issue further. It appears the problem occurs with some MSMs only, but only when InstallAware's merge module libraries have not been correctly registered. So you should be able to get it working by repairing InstallAware setup. Or, alternately, I would recommend you use the new runtimes as mentioned in my previous post. They were not included in the first InstallAware 10 release, but have since become available.
This would give you both better compression and the ability to place them inside web media blocks.

Re: Crash without error
I have not yet tried to do the repair.
I did add the CR for .NET Framework 2.0 runtimes to my project. Are those the ones you are referring to for CR for VS2010?
Thanks!

Re: Crash without error
I am still not seeing the CR runtime for VS 2010. I looked at CR for .NET 2.0 which seems to be for VS 2005. I see the CR Runtime for 2008.
Am I missing something? Where are the CR runtimes for VS 2010? I provided the link above but when I use those is when IA10 crashes.
Thanks!

Re: Crash without error
Just for anyone else reading, I found the correct library.
Its the CR for .Net Framework 4
Its a little misleading in that we aren't using .Net 4 but it is the runtime for CR for VS 2010.
Thanks!
