Run Program under UAC fails to run the program

Post by ElenaN »

I faced an issue which is reproducible only on some machines with Win7 x64 bit.

The issue is that “Run Program under UAC” command does not run the program (at all). Return Result is “-11” in that case. According to help documentation of “Run Program As” command - If the program cannot be started, Return Result in Variable field receives a negative integer value.

How can I figure out why exactly the program cannot be started? I mean can I get some informative log, or do you know what "-11" return code means?

By the way, same “Run program as” command with “Run under limited user account when UAC is enabled and setup is elevated (de-elevation)” check box not set works as expected.

Elana, could I suggest something you could think of trying? If you copy-and-paste the exact command to be executed into a DOS command window on the affected machines, does it give any further error information? The thing I'm hinting at is can you reproduce the problem using the UAC if you run the command manually? The darned thing is, I was getting -11 myself a while back but I can't remember in which context I was getting it. All I do remember is that I ran the command in a DOS window and quickly identified the problem but mine was not UAC related. That's the best I can think of at the moment.

Hi Bokkie. Thanks for response.
I tried to launch my program from cmd – it works. It also works from the installer if I do not de-elevate the program. So I thinks in my case problem is in de-elevation. The questions is why and why not on all machines.
