SSL Port has invalid value "0"

Post by Justin »

Hi

Im currently using the evaluation version of InstallAware Studio Admin. Im looking at replacing our current installer tool (wise) and need to create a website in iis in either a New Site or virtual directory.

I have a dialog that lets the user input values such as Site Name, Port number and SSL (which is defaulted to no value - set variable SSL_PORT to ) port number etc but when the IIS Site is created it cannot be started because the SSL Port field in the IIS properties has an invalid value of 0.

Any help on this would be great.

Thanks in advance

Dear Justin,

Thank you for your interest in InstallAware - I am sure that you will find it to be a very powerful tool.

Did you create the dialog you are describing? How exactly do you create your IIS website?

Thanks

Hi giaviv

Yeah i created the dialog. I have an editable text field that a user can input an SSL port into if necessary or leave blank (which is what most will do). This textfield writes properties to a variable SSLPORT. That variable is then used in the Create IIS Site dialog in the SSL PPORT field. i do a similar thing for the TCP PORT and Site Name aswell which seem to work ok.

Creating the site is done after installing the files and after an SQL connection using the dialogs in InstallAware.

Code: Select all

        Create IIS Site "$NEWSITE_DESCRIPTION$"
Get IIS Index for Site "$NEWSITE_DESCRIPTION$" into NEWSITE_DESCRIPTIONINDEXVAR
Create Virtual Folder "" in IIS Site #$NEWSITE_DESCRIPTIONINDEXVAR$, pointing to physical location $NEWSITE_WEB_DIRECTORY$
Get System Setting IIS Anonymous User Account into INETUSR
Set Read Permissions on File System Object "$NEWSITE_DESCRIPTIONINDEXVAR$" for $INETUSR$
        Start IIS Site #$NEWSITE_DESCRIPTIONINDEXVAR$
UPDATE: Im installing to Windows Server 2003

Dear Justin,

If you could send your project to support at installaware.com I will take a look at it and try to help you out.

Thanks!

Hi giaviv

The project is fairly large due to the installation files i would need to include but i can send it if needed.

I noticed that the IIS Example project defaults the SSL Port to 443 which from the technical standpoint is correct but when i change that to a blank value the same problem occurs. SSL Port is set to 0 in IIS when installing on WS 2003 and so the site wont start.

I guess i can just set my SSL Port to 443 aswell if necessary..

Justin,

Basically you are saying that if your user does not input a number into the SSL port text field in your dialog, you try to create the IIS site with SSL port 0 and that fails - did I understand you correctly?

Thanks

Kind of,

If the SSL Port field is left blank in my dialog. The SSL Port field doesn't show as blank once the Site is installed in IIS. It shows as 0 which is stopping the site from starting. I have to manually go into IIS and either delete the 0 or change it to 443.

Im not setting the SSL Port to be 0 anywhere in the installer.

Did you try to debug your installer?
You could run it in debug mode and put a breakpoint (F5) on the line "Create IIS Site". When the installer stops at the breakpoint, you can Add Watch (Ctrl + F5) and add your SSL_PORT variable. Is it blank or does it contain 0?
About sending the project - just send us the project folder that contains your *.mpr, *.dfm and *.mia (without your actual program / runtimes).
Which InstallAware version are you using?

Thanks

Dear Justin,

Thanks for your input. This issue is now noted as a bug. As a walk-around, please set your SSL port to 443 by default.

Best regards,
Aviv Giladi
