Is it possible to set permissions at the top level and have them propagate to all child objects???
I'm setting permission for Everyone --> Full Control but there could be hundreds of sub-directories ... can I set it once and have it propagate to all sub-directories or do I have have to set permissions for all sub-directories individually?
Is there a switch or command to control whether you are setting permissions on just that directory or that directory and all sub-directories?
Set permissions and propagate to all child objects???

Dear 5aclockshadow,
The permissions you set to a folder will propagate to all of its children.
Thanks

Re: Set permissions and propagate to all child objects???
hmm, ok, thanks.
If that is the case then I will have to look into things further on our end.
Just curious, what if I only want to set permissions on that folder and did not it to propagate down? Is there a way to do this?
Also the specific issue we're having is when our web app tries to create a new file in a sub-directory, read that file, then delete it. If I'm setting Everyone to Full Control then this should not be an issue, correct?
Any thoughts ... or can you point me in a direction to start troubleshooting this issue?
Thanks for any help!

Re: Set permissions and propagate to all child objects???
Dear 5aclockshadow,
Please note that when you set permissions to a folder (in IA and in Windows) - if the folder is empty, the permissions do not propagate down to the child objects. However, Windows is defaulted to having files inherit their father's permissions, so in that case, permissions will be inherited.
Thanks
