Control Panel Maintenance

Post by penfold »

Hi,

I have sorted most issues out, BUT. I now have another issue, if I install from a USB stick or CD or media other than the installing hard drive, when you go to control panel and start an install/ change/ uninstall it asks for the original source before running the installation. Does the single installer not copy itself so that control panel works, or do I have to copy the single exe somewhere first on the harddrive and leave it there so that control panel maintenance and or uninstall works?

Regards

Dear Steve,

It all depends on the compilation mode you are using - please use Web Deploy and that should solve your problems.

Hi,

spoke to my collegue this morning, and he had exactly the same issue, and it turns out to be the following tick box appearing to be enabled with a blue blob, but infact it is greyed out?.

Always Cache Setup Sources (allows easy patching without requiring access to original setup sources)

it seems to toggle around three options

1. not ticked
2. ticked (this should really be the default).
3. blue blob, greyed out?

Dear Steve,

I am quoting the help file associated with the Build section in the Project Properties:
When the box is filled, the default source caching option (as described above for each build type) is in effect. When cleared, setup sources are never cached. When checked, setup sources are always cached.
Does that help clarify this?

Hi,

IMO. it should be ticked NOT filled. So that your sources are always cached any special operation required, then the user should select. With it filled it does not make the installer operate in an expected way.

Hi,

On a secondary note , you have described now from the help what the various states are on the check box, but when you check or uncheck the box it does not reflect your descriptions in text.

Maybe you shoud re-consider your position on this and create the options via a set of radio buttons to avoid confusion also, or
set the text on selection to the description you have provided?
