assembly uninstall not working .net 4

Post by SteveRing »

I'm calling Remove Unpinned Assemblies after the Apply uninstall, and I'm using Installaware 10, which I think lists this as a fixed problem. But, my .net 4 assemblies aren't being removed. Is there a way to fix this? As far as I know, I'm not doing anything to pin an assembly. How can I make sure that they aren't pinned?

Dear SteveRing,

First of all, you said that you call the Remove Unpinned Assemblies after the Apply Uninstall. In InstallAware, some commands are cached and not executed (unless the Native Engine is used) until an Apply Changes command is called (such as Apply Uninstall). Lets try that first.

Perhaps I have the call in the wrong place. I'd like the old assemblies to be removed when doing a new install and the remove old is called. It would seem that having this before or after the apply uninstall isn't the place to do this. Or, if it is the place, it still isn't working.

Dear SteveRing,

To make your commands execute when called, you could use the Native Engine. Wrap your command with:
Set Variable NATIVE_ENGINE to TRUE
YOUR COMMAND
Set Variable NATIVE_ENGINE to FALSE

This is uninstalling the assemblies in GAC_MSIL, but leaving them in GAC_32. Much like my register assembly problem that doesn't work with assemblies that are in GAC_32. Is there a way to fix this?

How would you unregister them otherwise? regasm.exe /unregister? Does that behave properly with your assemblies?

I rebuilt the exact same installer, so that all the assemblies are the same. If I'm installing the exact same assembly, the old one gets uninstalled from GAC_32. If I'm installing a new version, the old version doesn't get removed. So, how do I make it so that the old version of the assembly gets removed when a new version gets installed? This is what I thought removed unpinned assemblies was suppose to do, but apparently not.

Dear SteveRing,

Could you please send your project along with your assemblies to support at installaware.com?

It's going to be too large to mail. Do you have an ftp site, or would you rather that I put it on one of our ftp sites?

Dear SteveRing,

If you could upload it to your FTP server (or a hosting server, such as rapidshare) that would be great.
