I have a big problem with IA Virtualization.
When I capture changes of an installation process with mpa, it takes an unreasonable long time to load the generated miv-File with the IA Virtualization IDE.
This is not only the case when I try to create portable projects with many captured filechanges, but also when I just switch IE settings to capture the resulting registry settings.
We are talking of up to several hours loadtime on a workstation with a windows performance index of 6.1 - it should be no problem of the host performance.
This behaviour could be experienced on Windows 7 (32-Bit [in VM] and 64-Bit), Vista (64-Bit) and Windows XP (32-Bit [in VM]).
What can be done to solve this? Is it allowed and possible to use the Boxed App Packer from boxedapp.com directly? There seems to be a newer version available. Will this create licensing issues?
Any help welcome, since the product makes me not really happy (neither productive) at the moment.
Best regards
Roland
Very slow loadtime of IA Virtualization projects
Re: Very slow loadtime of IA Virtualization projects
OK - I looked into this just a second ago once more - and this behaviour is due to very long hexadecimal registry values which were captured in the miv-File.
The packager seems to have a problem with registry values if they are too long. If you edit the mivfile and get rid of the long values by deleting them via a texteditor before first loading the miv-file into the the virtualization gui, it is all no problem.
This should imo be improved in the GUI, a simple check for the value length before parsing and loading the value into the registryobjects should do it. Just cut the registryvaluefield if it is too long and mark the Value data as uneditable (or provide some other possibility which can handle huge strings).
Almost very happy with the product again.
Best regards
