InstallAware generated MSI Package does not work

Post by claudiov »

Hello,

I am having a lot of trouble creating a simple setup that includes another setup (both generated with InstallAware).

Here is what I am trying to do:

Setup one - test_setup.msi
This setup installs a web application in IIS and it works fine. I have build it as "Single" and "CD or DVD" and it works fine.

Setup two - MydotNETInstaller.exe
This setup includes the test_setup.msi (built from the "CD or DVD" mode) using "(Un)Install MSI Package" but it always fails.

Code: Select all

  [compiler else]
  if Variable ADVERTISE Equals TRUE
Apply Advertised (get result into variable SUCCESS)
    else
    Set Variable INSTALLERROR to
    Set Variable INSTALLRESULT to None
Install/Remove MSI Package $NET_FILEBAG$\test_setup.msi[ADDLOCAL=ALL] (get result into variable INSTALLRESULT)
if Variable INSTALLRESULT not Equals SUCCESS
MessageBox: Installation Failed, could not install the web!$NEWLINE$$INSTALLERROR$
      Terminate Installation
    end
Apply Install (get result into variable SUCCESS)
  end
  [compiler end]

However, if I use "Run Program" it works fine but it pops the window of the first installer which I don't want.

So, I would like to know if it is possible for me to include a InstallAware generated .MSI into a another InstallAware setup??

I have looked at:

Hello,

You are correct, it is not possible to install InstallAware generated MSI's with InstallAware. That is because the MSI is not actually the installation, the exe is.
What we would recommend in this case is simply to include the script of your second setup as an Included Script within your second setup - then, you can control the setup without having to run any 3rd party software.
Otherwise, you can call the InstallAware exe with the /s flag for a silent setup.

Thanks a lot giaviv!

The "/s" command works fine.
