Requiring Installation from an Admin account

Post by rentzk »

We have a particularly troublesome SQL installation that has to be installed from an administrator account to operate, simply elevating the installer using UAC does not work. Is there any way to have the installer check to see what type of account it is being run from and either warn the user or exit he installation?

Yep - you can use the Get System Settings command to check for Administrator Rights and act accordingly.

That only seems to work if UAC is set to "Highest available" or "As Invoker" That does not surprise me, but what's strange is that the "Logged on User Priviledge (sp) Level " call also seems to take UAC into account. If someone with a user account elevates themselves using UAC, the account is being reported as being an Admin one.

Thats true, but in that case wouldn't you be able to install SQL anyways?
