Query information from MSI Installer

Post by ryancwarren »

Is there a way to gather information from the MSI Installer while it is in the process of 'Apply Install'? To find out what 'step', if there is a notion of step, it is on.

My problem is that I am concerned that the user doesn't know which step they are on during an installation since there is no overall progress bar, and it seems there are multiple steps to an install.

For example, you will see such PROGRESS texts as , 'Publishing product', 'Validating Install', 'Installing services' etc, which all go from 0% to 100%.

I'm guessing that 'Apply Install' is a block call and even if you could get information from the MSI Installer, then you wouldn't be able to display it.

Hi,

The call to the Apply Changes command is indeed a block call to the Windows Installer code and therefore cannot be 'captured'.
