Install Files Permanent Tries to uninstall

Post by MattWilkinson »

I have some files that I am installing using the Install Files command. These are being installed to a network share, so I have marked them as Permanent (so if the share doesn't exist at uninstall there is no issue). However when I do an uninstall after hiding the network share I get and error - 'Could not access network location' and there is no skip option - what is going wrong here?

Dear MattWilkinson,

When the share IS connected, what happens during uninstall? Does IA remove the files?

Yes, if the share is connected then the uninstall occurs as expected. I understand that IA will attempt to remove these files that it has installed, but there are two issues:

a) If the machine containing the share has been decommissioned, there is no way to continue the uninstall. (The dialog should have a Skip option).

b) If the file is marked as permanent, then IA should not attempt to uninstall it (this would be one option to work around the problem above, but IA does not do this)

Hey Matt,

The MSI engine does some internal book-keeping at any install, maintain or uninstall time for things like costing, determining which files are already in place, which aren’t, etc.

That being said, this issue wouldn’t occur with the native engine. Please use the native engine instead of the MSI engine and that should solve the problem.
To use the native engine, set the variable NATIVE_ENGINE to TRUE in the beginning of your script.
