MS SQL Server Plugin - Arabic characters

Post by alimohti »

Hello All,
Am using the MS SQL Server Plugin to execute scripts to my 2008 SQL Server, everything works fine until i use this plugin to insert records with arabic characters in the database, the plugin seems to change the file encoding or doesn't support unicode characters, please advise

Hi,

What exactly happens? Are you getting an error?

Thanks!

No it doesn't report any error, but when i check the database after the installation the arabic characters are replaced with either question marks or with unknown character

i tried both ways to execute the script from a file, or by writing the script into the SQL Plugin, and both gives the same result

Have you tested the script by running it NOT from InstallAware? Does that work at all?

Yes i did, i created a small console application that reads the SQL file and execute it and everything works fine, but using the SQL Plugin fails.. i don't know how the plugin was written but maybe it reads the file and override the current Encoding which will ruin the Arabic characters, please advise

Hi,

This is likely happening because unicode is not supported in that plugin.
As a workaround, I would advise trying to invoke command line tools to run the script using the Run Program command.
