.NET 4 installation problem x86

I did some searches hoping to find a similiar post but did not come across any.

I have a clean W7 VM (64 bit) and have small installer that installs .NET 4 (x86) as a pre-requisite. The installers then needs to invoke: IntstallUtil from: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319

Even if I force a reboot after .NET 4 has been installed during setup, I still get an error saying that .NET 4 has not been installed. I've cancelled the setup and tried to invoke installutil from the command line with the same result.

If I start over with a clean machine, install .net 4 from microsoft, then run my setup it invokes installutil without any errors.

So my question is when .NET 4 is checked off as a pre-requisite does it install everything. Or is there an issue with the workflow in installaware.

Hi Neil,

Please try manually running the pre-requisite installation binaries from the Program Files\InstallAware\InstallAware 11\runtimes\net30bin folder on your VM.

After the installation, what happens? Are you getting the same results as when you were installing it with InstallAware?

I forgot to mention that I am using IA 11.

Well when I run the setup manually it does not work. I'm running 'IA DIR\runtimes\netfx_core_x86\setup.exe' and 'IA DIR\runtimes\netfx_extended_x86\setup.exe'

The error message I am receiving is that there is an unexpected error with the setup package and to contact the vendor. With the install package I do not see this error. I tried to copy the runtime files from 2 different IA installations so the problem is probably from my copy of IA11. Do you have updated runtime files on your website?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

How are you manually running the setup exactly?

I copied the runtime folders onto the target machine (clean VM) and double clicked: setup.exe.

I also tried to run the MSI (netfx_extended_x86.msi) but it said that it must be called from the setup.exe. If there is another way, please let me know.

That is indeed the way.

Since the setup is not running, there is something wrong with your target machine - please confirm that it meets the minimum requirements for installing the runtime.
