Visual Studio Integration

Post by bzwart »

Hello,

We have developed an outlook add-on Using Visual Studio 2010. We have recently purchased Installaware and will begin focusing on creating the deployment of this addon.

Should we be using the integration within Visual Studio? For example, The Installaware tab offers the Build Setup, properties, etc, options.

What advantage would this provide versus creating it directly within Installaware and not using the integration? I know this is somewhat of a general question however as stated we are very new to creating deployment package from Visual Studio projects. In the past we have only worked with installers already provided from software manufactures.

Thanks

Hi,

Which edition of InstallAware are you using? Using the VS plugin allows for simplicity, but InstallAware's strength definitely lies within the tools in its IDE (such as MSIcode scripting).

InstallAware 12 Studio Admin.

Would it not make sense to perform the initial build within the Visual Studio InstallAware integration, than bringing it into the IDE for further customization and changes if necessary?

Yes, that is indeed the best practice. Use the VS plugin to create an initial setup from your VS project, and further customize it using the IDE
