Unable to compile MSI action install files

Post by 5aclockshadow »

I've added a section that is causing this error when I build:

"Error during build: Unable to compile MSI action install files"

Install Files \\<servername>\InstallAware\Support Files\somefile01.dll to $WINSYSDIR$
Install Files \\<servername>\InstallAware\Support Files\somefile02.dll to $WINSYSDIR$
Install Files \\<servername>\InstallAware\Support Files\somefile03.dll to $WINSYSDIR$
Install Files \\<servername>\InstallAware\Support Files\somefile04.inf to $WINSYSDIR$
Install Files \\<servername>\InstallAware\Support Files\somefile04.ocx to $WINSYSDIR$
Install Files \\<servername>\InstallAware\Support Files\somefile05.dll to $WINSYSDIR$
Install Files \\<servername>\InstallAware\Support Files\somefile06.dll to $WINSYSDIR$
Install Files \\<servername>\InstallAware\Support Files\somefile07.lng to $WINSYSDIR$
Install Files \\<servername>\InstallAware\Support Files\somefile08.dll to $WINSYSDIR$

Is there any way to troubleshoot this?

I've commented out each file ... only when all of these files are commented out does the setup build sucessfully. If I uncomment out even one of these files (doesn't matter which one), then I receive this error. That makes me think it is a problem where I have this section placed. I have tried to move it around to other sections but so far no luck.

Help please!

Are you able to connect / do you have adequate permissions to that server?

Yes. If I weren't able to wouldn't I get a message like 'could not find file' or 'access denied'?

I moved this block to the beginning of the install before any if statements and it works. However, this is not desired for the longterm ... would like it to install these files only if a certain component is selected.

Any idea why it works outside of my if statement but not inside of it?

Are you able to download the trial version of InstallAware 12 and testing it out there?

Does it have to be on the same box?

If so, will it affect my production environment?

It actually shouldn't be on the same machine since only one version of IA can be installed at a time.
