Form variable
Form variable
I've added a new radio button to the "setuptype" dialog named "Admin Install". I've set this radio button to store its value into variable ADMIN. When I try to compile the project it complains that variable ADMIN is not set. I can correct this by simply adding "Set Variable ADMIN to" to the beginning of the project. What I don't understand is why do the other variables set by the "setuptype" dialog not require this? This dialog also uses variables COMPLETE, MINIMUM, and PERSONALIZED; none of which have are initialized.

Re: Form variable
I am no expert in InstallAware logic, but it seems to me that when I see the variables for dialog screens, they just point to more dialog screens.
Such as setuptype:
if Variable WIZARD Equals BACK
GoTo Label: User Registration
else
if Variable WIZARD Equals CANCEL
GoTo Label: Main Install
end
end
So you want a radio button to store data into a variable, what data are you expecting it to store if you don't have triggered function associated with that radio button? You can make buttons perform certain actions, but that is limited to InstallAware actions. Such as:
if Variable MINIMUM Equals TRUE
Select Component: FooBar\Spam
MINIMUM, COMPLETE, etc. are system defined variables I believe (don't quote me on this), so I believe they have been initialized by the system. They don't need to be declared, because they are a placeholder.
Hope this helps,

Re: Form variable
Logan,
There are a fistful of predefined variables already built-in inside IA. Launch the F1 help and you can search for the predefined variables that are used. Generally speaking, if you interact with dialogs and add new content to them, you'll need to create a variable of your own to act as the conduit between you and the dialog.

Re: Form variable
Thanks for the confirmation.
So there is your answer Lanamor.

Re: Form variable
Hidden variables for variables used in the default dialogs? If that answer is correct that's an odd implementation.
I'm familiar with the built-in variables but the notion of hidden built-in variables is news to me.
