Hello fellow IA'ers;
Best wishes to all for a happy and prosperous New Year.
I have noticed that many newer Microsoft applications inform the user that the installer is "setting a System Restore Point" at the very beginning of an installation. Undoubtedly this is probably are very good idea and good practice to perform a the start of any installation (especially in light of the fact that Microsoft themselves apparently do not have enough faith in their MSI technology to properly roll back/uninstall in order to reverse problems caused by an installation!).
I was wondering if anyone else out their is doing this and if so, how?
Thanks in advance for sharing your expertise!
Steve
How can I Set a System Restore point...
Well actually is not because of lack of trust on the MSI engine, but in case a system file is getting updated, then they set a restore point, otherwise they never do it (i've only come across that behavior on WMPlayer and IE).
I've never done it, as i never "touch" system files in my installation.

There are also APIs you can use to create system restore points - see, for example, SRSetRestorePoint. You will be able to call these from a custom plug-in, or you can also try the Call DLL Function command.

I will second this plea, but would also appreciate to know how to call the aforementioned API using Call DLL as well...evoX wrote:It would be nice to have a Restore Point option in installaware instead of using a custom plug-in.
Has anybody done that before?
Thanks in advance.

Re: How can I Set a System Restore point...
I remember that I read about an IA flag to disable system restore point creation.
But I cannot find it anywhere in manual/forum.
Can someone help me, please

Re: How can I Set a System Restore point...
What do you mean by disabling restore point creation?
During the setup or system-wide?

Re: How can I Set a System Restore point...
I want to disable creating restore point only for the setup to save setup time.

Hi,
There is no built in way in IA to do this, however if you can write a dll that controls System Restore you could call it with Call DLL Function from MSIcode.
