Displayed icon in "Programs and Features"
Hello,
Can anyone enlighten me how to ensure that my application icon is displayed in "Programs & Features" instead of the standard Installaware Icon. Any help greatly received.

Iain,
Open your IA project and select the Design tab. Click on Add-Remove Programs under the Application Information node. There's a selectable icon option you can use. Does that do what you're looking for?

Re: Displayed icon in "Programs and Features"
Hello Bokki,
Thanks, that's what I was after.
However, when building the install everything is fine and the new icon appears for setup.exe, but when trying to run the setup.exe an error is displayed that states it is not a valid Win32 application? Remove the icon and the setup works fine.
Is there a specific format for the icons? I am using Axialis IconWorkshop to create the icons
Any help greatly received.

Re: Displayed icon in "Programs and Features"
Iain,
I looked at the icon I use in two of my installations. They are both 32x32 with a bit depth equal to 32. they are both 4286 bytes in size but...I can't ctually remember how I created them.
I have a suspicion I might probably lasso'ed them using Techsmith's SnagIt. Try creating yours the same size just to see what happens? If you want I could email you one of mine to see if it affects the outcome of your installation. Curiously, although I loaded say, abclogo.ico into my installation, IA seemed to copy it and rename it icon.ico. Perhaps the name-mangling plays a part as well?

Hello Bokkie,
Thankyou for the reply. If you could send me one of your icons to test that would be great. I have tried one of the IA .ico files and they give the same error.

Re: Displayed icon in "Programs and Features"
Iain,
Attached is a sample 32x32 icon file. I captured it using SnagIt. I used it to replace the icon in my setup and it worked okay and was correctly displayed in the ARP list. Try it on yours.
I only have version 12 installed so I was thinking of attaching a basic setup project using the icon but I don't know if you have 12 as well? I don't know if a 12-based project is usable on an earlier version of IA.
Edit: I couldn't attach the icon file as it barfed at me that the extension is not permitted. So, download the attached "txt" file and rename it's extension to "ico".

Hello,
Thanks for the ico file. Loads fine, but still doesn't work though. I'm using IA9. Is there a bug with that version?

Re: Displayed icon in "Programs and Features"
Iain,
I have version 9 but currently have version 12 installed as I'm committed to using it for the native engine, etc so I'm not in a position to install version 9 and see if I get the same result. We might need to let Aviv chip-in and see if he's able to comment on it. It'll be a couple of weeks before I could look at installing version 9. AFAIK, I don't think you can have side-by-side installations as I recall migrating from 9-10-11-12 forcibly removes any previous version.
As a clutch at straw idea , have you tried different icon sizes, like 16x16 for example, four bits, that type of thing?

Re: Displayed icon in "Programs and Features"
Hello Bokki,
I've also found this thread which seems to be the same issue as mine.
http://www.installaware.com/forum/viewt ... 02d417c1b0
It also mentioned the following.... can you explain this further please.
"Empty your temp folder, delete the files *ulterior* in your InstallAware folder, and try your build again."
Regards,

Re: Displayed icon in "Programs and Features"
Iain, I've got no idea what that's about. My temp variable is pointing (Win7) to Users.....AppData\Local\Temp but I can't find anything in there that suggests IA might have created anything. As for *ulterior*, I tried searching the IA folder in Program Files and I cannot find anything listed that matches that wildcard either. I've looked at the thread you gave the link for but I can't decode what it's referring to.

Hello Bokkie,
Thanks for the reply. I cant understand it either. However, It does imply that other users have had the same issue with IA9
Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this?

Re: Displayed icon in "Programs and Features"
For what its worth I'm using IA9 R2 SP3 and all my setups have custom icons without any problems.
Have you tried just creating a new setup as a test and placing an icon in that?
