Save doesn't really save (in IA 2012 Studio)

Post by spicymikey »

I just purchased IA Studio and have been converting a large MSI orginally written in Wise. Very impressed with this product and not much to complain about except its instability in Debug mode. Crashes a lot.

Related to crashing; Has anyone noticed that doing a save by clicking the diskette icon on the top toolbar does not really save everything. I noticed that when the application crashed this week and I had to do an end task to kill it. Discovered some code changes made recently were gone. Thought I was losing my mind until it just happened again. A little quick testing proved it to be true. You have to exit the application and restart if you truly want all your changes saved.

Either its just a bug in this latest version and flavor of IA or its a widespread thing. Beware.

Regarding the problem with saving changes. Looks like that was my own ignorance. I just realized this morning that your "save" icon only saves changes on the current script (or so it seems). If you drill down off the menu I see there is a SAVE and a SAVE ALL menu item. Clicking the SAVE ALL menu item seems to do the trick. So, I guess its not a bug but actually a "feature" :)

Suggestion, if you are going to offer an icon to do saving, consider offering an icon to also do a "save all". In most cases that's probably what people want to do. Also, it makes it clearer that the save icon is one of two possibilities. Sort of how it is represented in Visual Studio.

Lastly, it does seem there is a bug in this Quick Access Toolbar. Since this SAVE icon doesn't really save everything, I wanted to remove it from view to prevent me from accidently using it. Your product allows you to customize this toolbar. Unfortunately, my preferences are not saved. When I restart IA the original default view of this Quick Access Toolbar returns. Hope you can fix that in the next Build.
