Dear Lukas,

If you do a custom installation of InstallAware, you can remove the feature that installs the Visual Studio Addon.

I have the same problem (VS2010 SP1 crashes instantly when editing C++ source after having installed InstallAware 10.10 Developer Trial).
- deinstallation of IA plug-in didn't solve the problem
- complete deinstallation of IA didn't solve the problem
- repair installation of VS 2010 SP1 didn't solve the problem
- repair installation of VS 2010 didn't work (not clear why)
So now I try to deinstall VS 2010 SP1 and VS 2010 and do a complete reinstall (this will take several hours ..)

It's very annoying if a trial inst of an installation software crashes one of the most important programs for developers on that machine !
And I think that this current state is very bad for the reputation of IA because a trial of an installation software which itself crashes other standard software when beiing installed is not inspiring confidence to people who are evaluating that software, especially if this state persists for several months ..

So I think you at IA should put forth an effort so solve that problem !
To help you doing this here my 5 cent :

The machine is an i7 with Win 7 Ultimate x64 German installed.
I have installed the english and the german version of VS 2010 on that machine.
Would it be possible that either
- existence of another than english VS 2010 version causes the problems ?
or
- parallel installation of english and other language VS 2010 versions causes the problems ?

Regards

Dear Werner,

I have tried to reproduce this with the conditions you are describing and unfortunately was unable to.
If you can think of more information that can help us figure this out please let me know.

Thanks!

It appears that this issue is still present in InstallAware 2012. After installing the trial version, firing up Visual Studio 2010 results in a crash right after the project is loaded. This has got to be fixed. VS is my bread and butter. ;(

Sad I did not find this thread before installing. There should be a big warning when you install IA not to install the VS plugin (which actually is the reason I started looking at IA vs others...)

Update. If you open VS2010 with no project, nothing happens. However, the moment I create a new WPF project, I see

Going to Tools -> Add-in Manager, I do not see the IA add-in. How do I remove it?

Like others, re-installing InstallAware without the VS2010 add-on did not solve the problem. (In fact, another annoyance is that re-configuring the InstallAware install and unchecking VS2010 add-on does not do what you think - which is to uninstall the add-on, but actually re-installs everything else. 40 minutes of agony.)

I restarted VS2010. Same issues, this time without the InstallAware option in the menu. Debugging VS2010's crash led to this:

Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.

Here's another user with the issue...

Also this http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStud ... gner-shown

Work around suggests re-installing WP7 dev tools. Did we all previously install WP7 dev tools?

Update. The crashing can be resolved by re-installing WP7 dev tools.
