Compressing web media block for .NET Framework once

Post by tofutim »

I have .NET Framework Client 4 set as a pre-req and am targeting Web Deploy. Each time I build, IA12 insists on recompressing the bits for .NET Framework. Of course, this takes quite a long time. Is there any way to just have it done once? (In fact, once for all future .NET Framework Client 4 installs... though per project would be sufficient.) It is particular painful when the build fails for a simple reason, e.g., network drop unable to sign...

Dear user,

You can use Skip on Build option - (Press F1 in IA IDE for more info)

If files in your media block have not changed since the last time you built this setup, check this box to skip rebuilding this media block. Since media blocks are highly compressed, generating them takes time. This will save you time when you are testing and rebuilding your setup, and the media block in question has not been effected.

I figured this out after a bit. However, some bits for others that run into this. Each time Build happens, it will wipe out (erase everything from) your output directory. If you want to keep the compressed web media blocks, you need to move them somewhere else. When the word "skip" is used, I kind of expect the old files to stay in the directory, but they don't.

That's true, but it is also true that if use this option with your build, it is because you should not need those files with the build.
