.NET 4 not found on Vista SP2 even though it's there

Post by frankv »

I have an application that depends on .NET 4. I have Microsoft .NET Framework 4 and .NET Framework Client 4 both checked in Application Runtimes. My installer installs .NET 4 but when I launch my application I get a .NET Framework Initialization Error saying "To run this application, you must install one of the following versions of the .NET Framework: v4.0". I verified that a .NET 4 directory exists in \Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework and that .NET 4 registry keys were added. So far I have only seen this error on Vista SP2 32-bit. My application launches just fine on Windows XP SP3, Vista SP1 and Windows 7. I am running InstallAware 12 Build Moooya.8.4.11.

Dear Frank,

Could you reaplicate your issue in a very very simple project that you may send to me?

It turns out I can replicate the bug simply by running Microsoft's own .NET Framework 4 standalone installer on Windows Vista SP2. Just download dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe from Microsoft and try it. The installer works on Vista SP1. Go figure.
