Installaware 9 - pin to taskbar, startmenu
Installaware 9 - pin to taskbar, startmenu
I have an application that is built using Installaware Express 9. When the app is installed it presents the end user with 2 icons, both in the desktop and folder, yet only one of them has a pin to taskbar and pin to start menu option when you right click on it. If I try to auto-pin these using the Window 7 pin option on the shortcut it will also only pin the second one.
I'm not sure what to do because both icons have the same properties in the create shortcut folder other than the .ico file and the exe it points to and the link names and descriptions.
By the way, is there a service pack for installware express 9? I noticed in the forums some people had installed it, but there seems to be no information on where to get it.
I tried installaware 2012, but ran into the same problem. Is there something you need to configure at the shortcut level?
Thanks.

Dear Michaels,
yes I have tested ... but I haven't found your issue.
In my case both exe shortcuts Icons have pin to taskbar and pin to start menu option, when I right click on it.
Can you replicate it in a very very sample project that I can verify?

Re: Installaware 9 - pin to taskbar, startmenu
Sure thing. I created a sample product based on our installaware config. It contains one exe with pin options set for Windows 7.
If you install it won't pin and there are no pin options on the right click shortcut menu. If I add a second exe to the build (any exe) and create a set of shortcuts for it with pin to taskbar set, it will pin that one and present pin options on the right click menus of the shortcuts.
I couldn't upload here so you can download at http://www.esilaw.com/temp/test.zip. All files are included (22mb).
Thanks for looking into this.

Dear Michaels,
Unfortunately I been able only try your setup.exe and not your project, because the file "ESILAW Demo.mia " is not present in your upload.
can you try to send me just the missing file?

Re: Installaware 9 - pin to taskbar, startmenu
I don't have that file in the project folder. I created that installer from the original ESILAW Demo Installaware build, but saved it as a Demo Installaware build, changing the config settings in Installaware for the project. I think it might make more sense for me to recreate the install from a wizard instead as it seemed to have carried over settings from the ESILAW Demo.
I'll upload one shortly.

Re: Installaware 9 - pin to taskbar, startmenu
Okay, it's ready for download.
www.esilaw.com/temp/demo.zip
The demo folder in the zip file contains the Installaware project. I created it from scratch so it shouldn't have any references to other projects. Also, I ran the install and it didn't pin. I also checked the shortcut right click menu, still didn't get the option to pin the shortcut to the taskbar.
Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks!

Re: Installaware 9 - pin to taskbar, startmenu
Dear Michaels,
probably I'm missing something, I executed a test with the last project that you posted and the shortcut it is correctly pinned on the task bar.
I used the already builded setup included by you and tested on a Win 7 OS.
I'm wrong?

Re: Installaware 9 - pin to taskbar, startmenu
Okay, let me test again. Maybe security software is blocking pinning on our end? Or UAC or something along those lines....strange. I'll get back to you shortly.
