Re: Unicode user interface
Dear Eyal,
Use text as ANSI or double byte character set only.
Please refer at the following topic and also do a search for "localization" in our forum. The argument has been well covered in the past.

Re: Unicode user interface
Hi again,
Made some research on replies and topics on localization and didn't find a solution to the problem, unfortunately.
What I actually need:
* Translate message boxes (not dialogues);
* Translate buttons on message boxes (not on dialogues);
* Translate dialogues without duplicating a dialogue for each language based on LANGUAGE property as suggested by the post you provided a link to.
The thread you've provided deals with substituting dialogues with localized versions but there is no way to customize message boxes except translating the text that appears on them. And, as I've seen, these message boxes support only ANSI which means that only by changing the language for non-unicode programs on the OS level fixes the issue.
In this situation installer localized to French on machine with Spanish defined for non-unicode programs will show invalid characters and will be correct only in case French is defined as the language for non-unicode programs.
The same problem is discussed in the following thread but without a solution:
http://www.installaware.com/forum/viewt ... f=2&t=6024
Is there any news about that topic? Could anything be done to solve this issue?
Thanks in advance,
Eyal

Re: Unicode user interface
Dear Eyal,
The messagebox command available with InstallAware is handled by Window installer Engine directly.
These buttons are always localized using the target OS language. The same happens if you use the MessageBox WIN API function with any development tool. You can localize the message Text and Caption but not the buttons, these are always localized by the OS.
If you want to override this behaviour you must create a custom dialog and use it instead of calling MessageBox command in your script.
Anyway the above behaviour will always occurs with dialogs managed by Windows Installer engine directly, as when the user cancel the installation.
Remember that actually InstallAware doesn't handle UNICODE characters and all localization strings must use multibyte characters.
This is eventually required only with OS UI language that use non ANSI charset.
For your evaluation, I have posted a simple project that support English, French and Spanish localization.
Hope this helps you.

To translate strings that are used with your message boxes use "Set Localization Variable" and localize this variable with Translator tool.What I actually need:

If you are targetting multiple localization that share the same same characters set you do not need dialogs duplications (as with any language that use ANSI characters as; English, French, German, and so on). This technique have to be used eventually, only if you want to localize your project with languages that do not share the same character set (as Asian languages).* Translate dialogues without duplicating a dialogue for each language based on LANGUAGE property as suggested by the post you provided a link to
