start install after uninstall (like for upgrade)

Post by tzachk »

Hi Support,

How can I initiate an install after uninstall completed?
I'm rebooting during the uninstall, and after uninstall completes, I want to call install again.
Do I simply need to call APPLY INSTALL by myslef (didn't try it yet, is it possible?).
Do I need to have the logic in the finish region?

Regards,

Dear Tzachk,

probably I missed your question, but if you use "RESTART & RESUME" command just after the unistall process, this will cause the Installation to restart again after a system reboot. Once the installation is restarted, the process will continue to complete the setup.

So generally, it is not required any other modification.

Have you found differently?

Hi Francesco,

My upgrade process requires me to first uninstall and the re-install.
As you already know, I need to reboot during the uninstall.
So the flow is for upgrade:
- Detect that an upgrade is needed - Done automatically by the installer.
- Start the uuninstall process.
- Reboot as part of the uninstall. Done
- Continue uninstall after the reboot. Done
- Start installing after the uninstall completed. This part I don't know how to initiate. What do I need to call and where to put it in the script to start the install process after the uninstall finish?

Dear Tzachk,

are you executing your script flow for:
- Detect that an upgrade is needed - Done automatically by the installer.
- Start the uninstall process.
- Reboot as part of the uninstall. Done
- Continue uninstall after the reboot. Done
During Application Pre-Requisites?

If true, your installation should start the installation process as by default without any other script statement or command.
If you have a look to any InstallAware project, the variable NEEDSUPGRADE is used to keep track of previous version that have to be unistalled.
You could use the same approch for your custom unistall.

Let me know.
