Evaluating InstallAware

Post by keithjameshurst »

Hi,

I am currently on my 30 day trial on InstallAware and I cannot seem to get past thefirst elementary hurdle.

I have three folder locations which need installed, Folder1, Folder2, Folder3.

I prompt the user for these lcoation. These locationsare saved to $Folder1$ $Folder2$ and $Folder3$

On my Local hard drive I have three source fodlers D:\Install\SourceFolder1\, D:\Install\SourceFolder2\, D:\Install\SourceFolder3
The Script contains the following commands...

Code: Select all

Install Files D:\Install\SourceFolder1\*.* to $Folder1$
Install Files D:\Install\SourceFolder2\*.* to $Folder2$
Install Files D:\Install\SourceFolder3\*.* to $Folder3$
Apply Install
The target folders exist.

Source files exist in the source folders mentioned above.

No files are copied over.

This seems pretty elementary and I must be missing something pretty fundemental. Anyone care to shed any light on what I may be missing?

Thanks,
Keith

Dear Keith,

I suspect that very pobably those variables; Folder1, Folder2, Folder3 are not correctly assigned ... or not at all.

Can you add a dialog box just before the first Install Files command, to verify the value of these variables?

To help you, below you alredy have the code to add (please verify if I used the correct variable names);

Code: Select all

~InstallAware Clipboard Data~
~MessageBox~
~{06541219-9289-4DBA-A3A6-F0674E2302D9}~
~Debug~
~Folder1 = $Folder1$$NEWLINE$Folder2 = $Folder2$$NEWLINE$Folder3 = $Folder3$~
~0~
~1~

Hi,

I already had a messagebox before my code to confirm the destination source was what I was expecting. It was.

I cut the code down somewhat to just one folder which needs installed.

I ran the system from within the IDE, choosing again the same destination folder I was attempting yesterday. No joy. FOLDER1

I ran the system again from within the IDE, choosing a new destination folder (which exists). The system installed fine. I Then manually deleted the files from within that folder. FOLDER2

I ran the system again from within the IDE, choosing the original folder, FOLDER1. The system installed into FOLDER2 mentioned above even though my $destFolder$ was set to folder1.

It's like the installation is keeping hold of something in the back ground which is not being cleared out, from one run to the next.

I then exited the IDE, re-started and set my destination folder to FOLDER1. I ran again from the IDE, files were installed into FOLDER2.

Most odd.

Any ideas, as I'm not able to progress here at the moment.

Thanks,
Keith
