The message I am getting is: Downloading of installation data from the web has failed. Please make sure you are connected to the internet.
And I have read a number of threads on this topic posted by others. This one seems to have some similarity to mine in that the web deploy media block needed is already in the same local folder as the .exe file.

I have built several "test" web deployments and never had this issue arise. I have experimented with a couple of different setups for my web media blocks, but once I started to get this error I cannot seem to get rid of it.
What am I missing?
Also, in Design mode, is there any way to delete a web media block that is no longer defined in the MSI code?

Web deploy does not locate web media blocks in same folder
Re: Web deploy does not locate web media blocks in same fold
Scott,
Does this reproduce on all of the machines you are testing with? Is the file present / does it really get downloaded?

So far my tests have been focused on a single machine. I will set up another to test it on.
Yes, the file is downloaded in advance as I perform the download myself before starting up the executable.

Re: Web deploy does not locate web media blocks in same fold
I found that a necessary step when using Web Deploy with Web Media Blocks is to add the file type to the MIME supported types on my IIS 7 Web Server. The files are saved as .7zip in the InstallAware native format. Windows Server 2008
1) Launch Internet Information Services config screen (IIS) manager from Administrative Tools under Control Panel
2) in my case, I want this behavior universal, so select the web server from the tree on the left.
3) Find the "MIME Types" icon in the "IIS" section. Double-click
4) On the right, click "Add"
5) Enter ".7zip" as the File name extension
6) Enter "application/x-zip-compressed" as the MIME type:
7) Click OK, then go back to the server and and click "restart" (if appropriate for your environment).
