I have a requirement for our application to do an update check when it is started (hence cannot use the scheduler). I know how to do this by calling the setup executable with the appropriate parameters, but of course the setup application runs at the highest available permission, which in turn triggers the UAC prompt every time our application is started.
I tried building a separate setup just to do the update check, but it understandably suffers the same problem.
Does anyone know how to change the manifest for an IA setup application so that it does NOT run with admin privileges in these circumstances and whether this is likely to solve my problem? For the record, we only do the update check for admin users as only they can run the actual install.
Any other bright ideas on how to solve this much appreciated!
