Error during SFX and Web build:...In use by another process.

Product: IA Studio Admin 2012, Floating License

Splash Screen when license was activated on or about Oct 10, 2012 said: "IA Studio Admin 2012" and our previously existing projects built correctly.
However, today (Oct 29, 2012) the splash screen says "InstallAware NX" and when attempting to rebuilding the same, unchanged, previously existing projects, the SFX and WEB builds generate:
"Error during build: Cannot open file "C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallAware\InstallAware 2012\{40D0CDA0-F0E2-469C-B4C7-4BBC41920ADB}". The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process". This error is not reported for CD (uncompressed) builds.

The "{40D0CDA0-F0E2-469C-B4C7-4BBC41920ADB}" value changes every time another build is attempted and files with those names are found at the path specified in the error message.

New .NET Template project using template defaults with no additional files added.

SFX Build Results:
Error during build: Cannot open file "C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallAware\InstallAware 2012\{5487B46A-2083-47BD-8D23-D612DF8B3915}". The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process

WEB Build Results:
Error during build: Cannot open file "C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallAware\InstallAware 2012\{E90EC97A-E425-40FA-B9C0-A52EB3E09813}". The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process

CD BUILD Results:
No errors.

NOTE too that this errant behavior is not seen using miabuild.exe (last modified date is 9/26/2012). Only miaa.exe (IDE, last modified date is 10/1/2012) exhibits the errant behavior.

There is no antivirus software running on the development machine running IA.

There is no antivirus application installed on the machine running IA 2012 (now NX?) that exhibits this behavior.
Windows Defender is installed and I have found no way to disable or uninstall it. It has been on this machine since Win7 was installed on it (almost a year ago).

I'm really out of ideas ... also because I am unable to replicate it.

Just the last try that comes to my mind ... are you testing the issue after personal license activation?
Have you tried what happens if just install and verify the problem using as trial (without activating IA)?

I have experienced the same problem. However, in my case, the problem was caused by a newer license activation application. We have one that is nearly a year old and another that is from the past September. When I ran the activation application from September, I got the build error that is discussed above. I was able to correct it by running the older activation application.

One test you could try is to revert back to an evaluation installation and try the build before you run the activation application. If your build works, then you may be having the same problem that I had.

for testing purpose I do exactly the same many time in a week.
Very often I use the trial installation first and then I activate it to test any possible issues combination, but honestly I never found the same.

For what you are reporting and because reverting back using the old activation seems to work, I can only imagine that for some reason some files or settings are left somewhere on you system or probably, your latest license file is not synchronized with the version you are activating.
Also I had a past experience with a similar issue caused by anti-virus restrictions.
Obviuosly, I am not saying here that it is the same in your specific case ... but it could be.

The only possible suggestion that I can share with you, it is to verify as first, if activating using the last license that you have works fine on a fresh new machine.

I reinstalled the InstallAware_2012_With_Runtimes.exe I initially downloaded on 7/10/2012 and selected the Trial option and Single Executable and Web projects built within the IDE build correctly. Uncompressed builds built within the IDE build correctly.

I ran the IA Anonymizer Inc.exe license generator I downloaded from our client site on 10/10/2012 and all Single Executable and Web builds built within the IDE fail with the message "Error during build: Cannot open file "C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallAware\InstallAware 2012\{40D0CDA0-F0E2-469C-B4C7-4BBC41920ADB}". The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process". As before, Uncompressed builds built within the IDE build correctly. It appears there may be a problem with the the IA Anonymizer Inc.exe license generator.

No, it is not correct! For what you are reporting, you are using a license file for IA NX version and not for IA 2012. In fact, if you have downloaded your last license activation on 10/10/2012 it can be for IA NX only ... and this explains the cause of your issue.
