Embedded administrator credentials
Embedded administrator credentials
We want to create installations with embedded administrator credentials (username/password) in order to install on machines without the user having to know the administrator credentials. Is it possible and if so, how is it done?

Re: Embedded administrator credentials
Dear User,
unfortunately, you can't create a setup project with embedded administrator credentials.
The only possble alternative that you have it is to use "Run Program As" command (which accepts user credentials), to embed a package installation in a project.
Hope this helps you.

Re: Embedded administrator credentials
Hello Francesco,
Thanks for the reply, but it is a bit cryptic. What do you mean by the "Run Program As" command. Is this an InstallAware command or a Windows command?
What we want to achieve is for a standard user to be able to install without knowing the administrator password, but the creator of the install package does. It of course assumes that all the systems where the package must be installed, will have an administrator account with the same credentials.
Thanks,
Gerrit.

Re: Embedded administrator credentials
Dear Gerrit,
I'm sorry for my cryptic reply.
What I'm refering to it is only a possible workaround, that I haven't tried ... but probably could work.
it is not possible to specify credentials with IA project settings, but it is possible to execute a process that requires credentials, using the "Run Program As" IA Command.
Pratically you could try to create a Dummy project that doen't nothing, but only executes your effective setup package using the "Run Program As" command ( ... which accepts credentials). The effective setup package should be added as support file to your Dummy project and you can refer at it using the form: $SUPPORTDIR$\mypackage.exe" with Run Program As command parameters. I suppose for this Dummy project you should set the UAC settings at lowest level to be executed by any user.
I repeat I never experimented this approach ... but it is the only possible that comes to my mind.
Hope this helps you.
