Hello,
I am currently evaluating InstallAware for our needs.
Part of our install process involves installing the application.
The next stage involves installing some license key drivers.
Once the drivers are installed, the customer must plug in their license key.
Once the install process detects that the key has been plugged in, the customer can then run the protected application.
My question:
Is it possible to detect that a device has been plugged in without writing a plug-in and custom code?
E.g. Can install aware do something such as wait for a specific VID/PID device to be present on the system?
Thanks for any suggestions.
Steve

Re: Hardware Detection
Dear Steve,
Unfortunately, InstallAware doesn't come with a command to handle if a specific device is available with the system.
Actually this is only possible using a custom code via DLL or developing a Plugin for that.
PS.
I never tried and I'm not a PowerShell expert ... but probably this could be possible using a customized PowerShell script (... the script can be executed via "Run Program" IA command).
I suggest you to have a look at the available Powershell script documentation for more info.
Hope this helps you.

Re: Hardware Detection
Thanks for the reply.
In which case, I think I will update my current installation app that we have written ourselves instead.
Perhaps I can suggest this for a future feature?
Then perhaps it will be 'in' the next time I evaluate InstallAware.
I think detecting that a device has been plugged in after driver installation would be a pretty common scenario to want an installer to handle.
Best regards
Steve
