Hello,
some of our customers get an error with the message "access violation in module version.dll" when they run our installers. The affected systems are all Windows 7 systems. Is this a known issue?
Thanks in Advance!
Greets,
Stefan

Re: Access violation in "version.dll"
Hi Francesco,
sorry for the few information on this. It is quiet a new issue and we're just trying to figure out where the error does appear in our script code.
Maybe you can help us with the question if there are any built-in InstallAware functions that use functions from the Version.dll? (Maybe "GetFileVersionInfo" in "Get File Version" or "VerInstallFile" in"Install Files"?)
Thanks and greets,
Stefan

Re: Access violation in "version.dll"
Dear Stefan,
The Version.dll module, exports WIN API functions that are extensively used by MSI engine directly and of course by InstallAware as well.
It is not really simple to give you a list of commands that could call these WINAPI function, because them can be called by some nested process also.
Not only, the version.dll is widely used by the OS directly.
For sure, I'm not informed of similar issue with other IA users.
I may suggest you to try with placing some MessageBoxes in your script code, in order to identify exactly which is the offending code.
Regards.

Re: Access violation in "version.dll"
Has there been any resolution to this problem? One of our customers is getting the exact same errors.
The code that is at the indicated location is
Since this code has worked for hundreds of other people over the last couple of years, I'm fairly confident that it is OK, but we do not know what to have the customer check or fix on their system.
The code that is at the indicated location is
Code: Select all
Set Variable LANGUAGE to English
Get System Setting Language (Numeric) into LANGUAGE_NUM
if Variable LANGUAGE_NUM Equals 1036 <---- here
Set Variable LANGUAGE to French

Re: Access violation in "version.dll"
Dear User,
have you tried to verify at runtime (with the help of a message-box) what is exactly the value returned by "Get System Setting Language"?
Then also remeber, that an "Access violation" error can be generated by many different reasons.
If you receive the same error message doesn't mean that the cause is the same.
