Dependency scan

Post by johnbyerly »

Hi,

I hope someone can help. I have a project that includes several DLLs and a couple of EXEs. I ran the dynamic scan on it and several system files were identified. My build is failing because it is trying to grab the system files from system32 instead of SysWOW64. I know I can edit all of these files, but how did the wrong folder get there in the first place?

Dear JAB,

We are informed about a possible issue when Dependency scan is executed on a x64 OS, which causes that some system files are reported as located erroneously under "system32". Currently, I haven't any other info about a possible available fix.

Anyway, even if these files are correctly located by the scan process, I may suggest you the following.

It is usually a bad idea to add files directly from pre-defined system folders. I would instead copy the files to a project folder and add them directly from there, using relative or absolute paths. Adding files from system folders runs the risk that an application you install may update these files (for better or for worse), and consequently, when you rebuild your installers, you might suddenly have updated/downgraded some crucial system components your applications are relying on, without even being aware of it. This will only cause more problems for you and your clients down the road.

Hope this helps you.
