Hi,
I am trying web update which can pull the updates form web( in my case a ftp site). To test it , I have selected the option "Manual Update Checking(start menu shortcut) and above that I have provided a ftp site as a monitor URL.
After installing the setup up file when I am trying the update form the shortcut start menu it says
"Unable to contact the Update sever for the <application name>
Please check your internet connection and try again"
I can access the ftp site and the respective folders in the browsers, but still install aware gives me that error.
Please post the answer if anybody has gone through this..
Thanks.

Dear User,
It should work ... unless your FTP access requires credentials ( due current OSes restrictions ).
is it your case?

Dear User,
Could you please post a very minimal project that replicates your issue?
I'll try to verify what happens

Re: Web Update can not contact to the ftp sever
Hi,
Please find the attached project files (both .net and install aware) for testing the web update.
This time its slight better as I am sure its connecting the web server but after contacting the web server its prompting me “There is no update available at this moment <app name>”. I think there is some problem in my settings.
The difference form last time to this time is.
• Application developed, built and test in Windows 8 VS Windows XP (this time). I guess the OS should not have an issue to contact the web servers.
• The web server does not require any credentials.
My main goal is a auto web update with the real application. So let’s find a solution for the sample “Hello World” first.
I think this Forum has issue while updating files. Anyway please download the files from
Thanks in advance

Dear User,
I received your files ... anyway, it is enough the InstallAware project ... I don't need the other net projects.
I will be back as soon as possible or if I require any additional info.

Re: Web Update can not contact to the ftp sever
Dear User,
your problem is caused by an incorrect data under the section "[Update Packs for Versions]" with your updates.ini.
Currently your file has:
1.1=Hello world Update for 1.0
( ... doing as above the update is served for version 1.1 of your app)
instead it has to be:
1.0=Helloword 1.1
( ... doing as above the 1.1 update is served for version 1.0 of your app)
To correct it successfully, just remove and the re-enter the required settings under "The Update Packs page" and "The Versions page" in IA IDE.
Hope this helps you.
Regards.

Re: Web Update can not contact to the ftp sever
Thanks, its working now. But as I told before I need a have a Auto update feature rather manual update, the build fails to install after download. Fist up all I did not see its prompting me. Then I tried to click manually on the windows menu and its started download like Manual update. After long wait I can only see the busy symbol rather installing on the machine.

Re: Web Update can not contact to the ftp sever
Dear User,
If the downloaded update fails on install, this has nothing to do with the Web update process, but very probably, exist something wrong with that specific package. This can be easly tested by manually running that package to verify if it installs correctly.
First try this and then post your results.

Re: Web Update can not contact to the ftp sever
Well, let me clarify that I had tested it before posting last time.
If you think there is some problem in the package then I wont agree with that for the simple reason as its working fine when I've used the manual update. Correct me if I'm wrong. And moreover as I said its installing nicely with manual installation.
The auto update never works for me. I've tested it again today. Its always in the installation mode after being downloaded. Please see the attached screen shot to verify that. Am I missing anything in the setting? I have configure the following Setting Items.
1. Receive Application Update > Automatic Updates (Every time setup is run)
2. Setting Update packs and versions
Finally I have tried the Schedule Update and which also did not work for me. However, after the installation it did ask me the the scheduled day and time on the next reboot of the system. It never tried to download at all on the scheduled day. Let me know If I have to configure any other settings other than.
1. Receive Application Update > Schedule Updates (Every time setup is similar to windows update)
2. Setting Update packs and versions.
Let me tell you one more thing, I am using the same package that I sent you earlier for all the three type of update.
Thanks
