Dear Steve,

... sorry I missed to reply to you.

I tried to test your project, but I am not able to replicate your possible issue.

I used several WIN XP target OSes to test the package and the active MS SQL Instance has been always detected (see screen-shot below).

There problem happens when there is no SQL Server found NOT when one IS found Please test again.

Turn off your NIC and perform that test please.

Dear Steve,

just tested once again ... as expected, the "Detect MS SQL Server" command only retuns an empty string when SQL Server instances are not found.

I don't see any error.

During the timespan of this thread we have had a customer on XP which had the same problem. What could explain this issue? is some component of IA corrupt on our machine? Is ths C++ Resist missing corrupt or missing?

Dear Steve,

the only possible way to verify if your IA installation gets corrupted, it is to test what's happen if installed on a different machine.

By the way, attached you find the exe output I generated using your project files ... you may try to verify it on your machine.

Francesco,

Thank you very much for the reply and your build. You can see from the linked video that your build also has the same issue on this XP machine. There are other XP machines in the field that also have the same issue with the Detection Plug-In. We work around this issue for our customers by manually installing MS-SQL Server then the plug-in works and finds the instance.
